This position will work independently to provide GIS support during the planning, design and construction of engineering projects.  Must be able to handle multiple projects and prioritize work.

Primary Duties & Responsiblities

  • Conducts data gathering, conversion and analysis of GIS data.
  • Applies cartographic standard principles to prepare maps and exhibits using GIS data sets.
  • Prepares data documentation for metadata for GIS projects.
  • Monitors quality control within area of responsibility before submitting to project manager for review.
  • Strong written, verbal and graphic communication skills.
  • Support work of senior GIS staff, engineers, planners and surveyors.
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting to Project Manager for review.
  • Provide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects with descriptions for each time entry on a daily basis.

Critical Reporting/Working Relationships

This position will require strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills, as well as demonstrate the ability to function in a team environment.

Job Qualifications

 

  • Education:  Minimum Two-year technical graduate in GIS or equivalent program.
  • Entry Level: 0-3 years experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of ESRI ArcInfo.
  • Knowledge and experience with GPS hardware and software in addition to field data collection and processing.
  • Knowledge of map projections and coordinate systems.
  • Knowledge of Geoprocessing tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Self-motivation with strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with clear expectations and timelines, and ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels in the organization in a team environment.

Nature and Scope of Position

  • Requires prolonged sitting, bending, stooping and stretching with periodic walking and standing.
  • Requires the ability to lift 20 lbs or more.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to travel.
